2020 New River Marathon response to COVID-19
The 2020 New River Marathon, Half Marathon & 4 Mile has been postponed to October 3, 2020. In our conversation with Ashe County administration on Friday, May 1, their council is to postpone the New River Marathon. The size of the event, the amount of travel for our runners and the inevitable contact that happens among runners, staff and volunteers are all factors that contributed to this decision.
Deferral to 2021: If you cannot run with us on October 3, 2020, deferring your race entry to the June 12, 2021 event is possible. The request for deferral must be received before August 31, 2020. The runner will forfeit the current year’s entry fee and will be responsible for 50% of the 2021 entry fee. To submit your request for deferral, please email race management at email@example.com and include your full name and DOB. The 2021 entry must be completed by May 16, 2021.
Cancellation: If the current health crisis continues into the Fall and the New River Marathon cannot be held on October 3, 2020, a decision to cancel will be finalized by September 4, 2020. If the 2020 New River Marathon is cancelled, pre-registered runners will receive a respective credit for the 2021 New River Marathon, Half Marathon, 4 Mile or 1 Mile. Those runners who chose to defer will also be eligible for the 2021 credit.
As our attention remains on the current health crisis, we continue to pray for those whose health and families have been impacted. We hope for a restored tomorrow.
Thank you for running with us and thank you for your understanding. You are greatly appreciated. Hoping to see you at in October! We will post any new updates on our website, Facebook and Instagram.
