2020 New River Marathon response to COVID-19
The 2020 New River Marathon, Half Marathon & 4 Mile will be running “live” October 3, 2020. Protocol details are being worked on, but expect:
- Face covering requirements at check-in, at the Start/Finish venue, Start line and immediately after crossing the Finish line.
- Staggered Start for all 3 races (Start Times for the Marathon earlier than 7:30am to accommodate the staggered start).
- Support station protocols are being developed.
- Awards and Awards Ceremony are in discussion.
2020 Registration: The current entry fee tier has been extended through September 14. The NRM website Registration page has been updated.
Deferral to 2021: If you cannot run with us on October 3, 2020, deferring your race entry to the June 12, 2021 event is possible. The request for deferral must be received by September 14, 2020. The runner will forfeit the current year’s entry fee and a respective credit will be extended for the 2021 New River Marathon, Half Marathon, 4 Mile or 1 Mile. To submit your request for deferral, please email race management at firstname.lastname@example.org and include your full name and DOB. The 2021 entry must be completed by May 16, 2021.
Cancellation: If the current health crisis continues into the Fall and the New River Marathon cannot be held on October 3, 2020, a decision to cancel will be finalized by September 12, 2020. The current NC Phase 2 Executive Order is in place through September 11. If the 2020 New River Marathon is cancelled, pre-registered runners will receive a respective credit for the 2021 New River Marathon, Half Marathon, 4 Mile or 1 Mile. Those runners who chose to defer will also be eligible for the 2021 credit.
